Semper and Valor's story

Some stories aren't about one dog — they're about two, and the bond between them that never really breaks. This is Semper and Valor's story.

Two Puppies, One Family

Two dogs, Semper and Valor, together at home as puppies

Semper and Valor came into the family the same year, in 2012 — two puppies who somehow already knew they belonged together. From the very first day, they were inseparable. Where one went, the other followed. What started as two separate adoptions became, almost instantly, one lifelong friendship.

Best Friends by the Water

Summers meant the lake — the two of them paddling out together, shaking off side by side on the shore, never more than a few feet apart. Walks were the same story: two leashes, one pace, one pair of dogs who had long since stopped needing words to stay in step with each other. For ten years, that's just how life looked.

The First Goodbye

In 2022, Valor passed away. He was the first to go, and for a long time after, the house didn't feel finished. There was a second bowl that stayed down a little longer than it needed to. A leash that hung by the door, unused. And there was Semper — who kept looking for his best friend in all the places Valor used to be.

Alone, and Missing His Best Friend

Dogs grieve, too. Anyone who watched Semper in the years after will tell you that. He still went on walks, still swam at the lake — but there was a quiet to him that hadn't been there before. He'd rest his chin on the floor by the door some evenings, watching it, waiting, the way he always had for Valor to come bounding back in. He carried that missing piece with him for four more years — a good dog, loyally, quietly heartbroken, holding onto the memory of his best friend the only way he knew how.

Together Again

In 2026, Semper passed away too — and in a strange, quiet way, it felt like he finally got to stop waiting. Today, their memorial stones sit side by side near the water, close enough to touch, the way the two of them always were. Two names. Two dogs. One friendship that outlived every goodbye.
